Choose Your Micro-Niche

In this lesson I will help you choose a micro-niche.

We learned in the last lesson which of our chosen niches were trending and you should have an idea of which niche you want to dive into for your business.

So, let’s look at the next step which is breaking down niches into micro-niches and finding business opportunities.

Remember the two things we must adhere to when finding a micro-niche.

  1. Solve a Problem
  2. Speak to Someone Directly

Breakdown the niche

As we’ve seen previously solo travel is a trending search term and will yeild results all year through – my job now is to pick a popular micro-niche within solo travel to start a web business in – here’s how I do it.

Budget Travel vs Luxury Travel

The first factor I look at is cost.

Which is more popular budget travel or luxury travel?

I am looking for a clear indication on which way to take this niche – let’s find out!

We can clearly see luxury travel has gained popularity over budget travel and this year (2022) started a big trend. #LuxuryTravel also has over 8.6M posts on Instagram compared to the 645,000 for #BudgetTravel.

So, Luxury Travel is more popular and will be part of my micro-niche – I need to know what type of person is a luxury solo traveller and what do they want?

After a bit of Googling I have found that there are several different types of person looking for a luxury solo travelling experience.

Types of Traveller

Busy Professionals: Busy high-income professionals who have the means to indulge in luxurious solo trips. They may be seeking a break from their demanding careers and are willing to invest in high-end travel experiences.

Independent Explorers: Solo travellers who value their independence and enjoy the freedom of traveling alone. They have a preference for luxury accommodations, fine dining, and personalised services to enhance their solo travel experiences.

Celebratory Solo Travelers: Individuals celebrating milestones or accomplishments in their lives, such as birthdays, promotions, or achievements. They choose to treat themselves to a luxury solo trip as a way to reward and pamper themselves.

Retirees and Empty Nesters: Individuals who have reached retirement age or have recently become empty nesters. They may have more time and financial resources to embark on luxury solo trips and explore destinations they have always dreamed of visiting.

Wellness Seekers: Health-conscious individuals who prioritise self-care and wellness during their travels. They are willing to invest in luxury wellness retreats, spa experiences, and holistic therapies that promote relaxation, rejuvenation, and personal well-being.

Adventure Enthusiasts: Solo travellers with a taste for adventure but who also appreciate the comforts of luxury. They seek out high-end accommodations and curated adventure experiences that provide excitement, thrill, and exclusivity.

Women Traveling Alone: Given the solo travel aspect, I found that a significant portion of this audience consists of women looking for advice and insights on safe and luxurious solo travel experiences.

Cultural Connoisseurs: Travellers who have a passion for immersing themselves in different cultures, traditions, and history. They opt for luxury solo travel to gain exclusive access to cultural events, private guided tours, and unique cultural experiences.

Social Media Enthusiasts: Luxury travelers often enjoy documenting their experiences on social media platforms like Instagram, so this audience might include those looking for Instagrammable destinations and experiences.

As you can see there are quite a few different types of person that I believe would be looking for a more luxurious vacation.

What they want

Luxury Solo Travellers: This micro-niche targets solo travellers who seek high-end and exclusive travel experiences.

Here are some key aspects of this micro-niche:

  1. Luxury Accommodations: Luxury solo travellers often look for upscale accommodations that offer exceptional amenities, privacy, and impeccable service. This could include luxury hotels, resorts, boutique properties, or even private villa rentals. These accommodations provide a sense of exclusivity and attention to detail that align with the preferences of luxury travellers.

This can involve services such as dedicated concierge assistance, tailored itineraries, private guided tours, or exclusive access to events and attractions. 3. Fine Dining and Culinary Experiences: For luxury solo travellers, gastronomic experiences are often a highlight of their trips. They seek out Michelin-starred restaurants, gourmet dining experiences, and opportunities to explore local cuisine at its finest. Culinary tours, private dining experiences, and access to renowned chefs or cooking classes are all attractive options for this micro-niche.

  4. VIP Experiences: Luxury solo travellers are drawn to unique and exclusive experiences that set their trips apart. This could include private yacht charters, helicopter tours, luxury train journeys, or access to exclusive events, such as fashion shows or film festivals. The focus is on providing exceptional, one-of-a-kind experiences that create lasting memories.

  5. Spa and Wellness: Luxury solo travellers often prioritise relaxation and wellness. They seek out spa resorts, wellness retreats, and rejuvenating treatments. These travellers may indulge in luxurious spa experiences, yoga and meditation retreats, or wellness-focused activities such as fitness classes, wellness coaching, or holistic therapies.

  6. High-end Transportation: Luxury solo travellers may prefer premium transportation options to enhance their travel experience. This can involve first-class or business-class flights, private jet charters, chauffeur services, or luxury car rentals. The aim is to provide a seamless and luxurious journey from start to finish.

After just a few minutes of Googling I have come up with some pretty good information on various types of person that are potentially looking for a luxury solo vacation.

It’s now time to answer the two determining factors

Can we solve a problem?

Yes! – I believe that people who travel solo always feel more vulnerable compared to when they travel in a group so a website that addresses travel tips for solo travel would help solve a problem (Trip Planning, Safety & Security).

Also people seeking a more luxurious type of holiday expect things like Personalised Service & Attention, Luxury & Privacy – so an information blog based around these criteria would be helpful and benificial to the reader.

Are we speaking to someone directly?

Looking at the varied types of person that is potentially looking for a luxury solo trip I would say there is certainly a viable audience.

So, I would have to say yes, solo travellers who seek high-end and exclusive travel experiences.

Based on all the above information I believe there is more than enough information telling me I have an interesting micro-niche!
